Thankfully, Courtney’s Granny-get-up was just a clever ruse to throw the paps off her trail. I give you exhibit A, below…

Lily Mae Martin, The Unknown. Ink on watercolor paper. Thanks to Lily Mae Martin for the use of the image.

Australian artist, Lily Mae Martin, says she likes zombies, Goya and squirrels. This excellent triad translates fantastically when Martin puts her weapon of choice, a fine liner pen, to paper. Currently residing in the UK, Martin, will be a part of an exhibit called “Horrorwood” this coming October at the WWA in Culver City.

Martin blogs pretty regularly, check it out here. For Martin’s online gallery, click here.

Nick Cave’s Grinderwolf… 2

Posted on June 02, 2010 by DJC

Grinderman 2, Grinderwolf promo, 2010. How they found a wet-wolf that looks like Nick Cave is beyond me. Thanks to NPD for the link.

The second studio release from Nick Cave’s Grinderman, Grinderman 2, is due out in the U.S. on September 14th (UK on September 13th). The first leg of the Grinderman tour (!) starts in  Europe in late September and, concludes in Paris at Cite de la Music on October 26th. The word currently grinding through the Internets is that Cave will once again tour the U.S. with the second coming of Grinderman. No dates yet so, stay tuned.

On June 24th, Cave will be honored with a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Dundee. In addition to speaking at the ceremony, Cave will also be reading from his second novel that got him nominated for the “Bad Sex in Literature” award in 2009, The Death of Bunny Munro. In other news, I love the way the way the words “Dr. Nick Cave” roll off my tongue. Grrrrrr...

Nick Cave To Bring Back Grinderman II in September… 0

Posted on May 26, 2010 by DJC

Nick Cave and Grinderman. Thanks to NPD for the link.

Nick Cave will bring a gritty second coming of Grinderman, Grinderman II, to life on September 14th. Cave’s first release with Grinderman from 2007 was full of songs about pussy and getting it on. As the pussy + hard-on formula never fails when it comes to artistic expression, there’s no doubt that Cave will be bringing more of his hard-up ruttish swagger to Grinderman II.

Grinderman II’s tour kicks off on September 25th @ Rock City in Nottingham. More tour dates here.

Daily Earwig: The Fall – Bury! Pts 2 + 4… 0

Posted on May 10, 2010 by DJC

The Fall, Bury! Pts 2 + 4. From the bands 28th record, Your Future, Our Clutter – out now.

The madly brilliant 53 year old vocalist for The Fall, Mark E. Smith, has had nearly as many different members in his 34 year old band, as he is old. Smith was recently quoted saying that this latest iteration of The Fall may be the greatest one yet. The bands 28th (yes, really) record, Your Future, Our Clutter, is full of Smith’s cocky swagger and lyrics, mixed with aggressive guitars that demand your attention, much like 2003’s Sparta F.C.. Keeping true to his trippy lyrical form in the last 30 seconds of Bury! Pts 2 + 4, Smith gets nostalgic about his disdain for the cuter cousin of the rat, the gray squirrel.

INSADarlineMyDreamLifePaperDoll
My Dream Life Darlene paper doll by Insa. For Stacey.

This street-wise version of the paper doll by UK artist Insa comes with everything a hot girl made of paper needs to make all her dreams come true, like a glock, wads of cash, a 40 of malt liquor, some dope, a cupcake and a wedding dress. Because you never know when Mr. Right (or Mr. Right Now) is going to show up in his El Camino, roll down the window and ask you to be his forever woman. Even paper dolls need to be prepared for anything.

If you’re in LA, you can see the paper doll interpretations of over 40 different artists at The Timeless Paper Doll group show at FIFTY 24 Gallery.
