Tom Jones covers Leonard Cohen’s ‘Tower of Song’. From Cohen’s 1988 classic, ‘I’m Your Man’. Get our your tissues, this one’s a tear-jerker.
Set for release on May 21st in the UK, Tom Jones’ latest record, ‘Spirit In The Room‘, will find the timeless Tom Jones covering classic songs from Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and blues legend, Blind Willie Johnson. If you do two things today one should be watching Jones’ video for Cohen’s ‘Tower of Song’ (above). Not only does Jones do the original proud, the video is reminiscent of Johnny Cash’s gripping video for ‘Hurt’. The second thing you need to do is listen to Jones’ spot on cover of ‘Bad As Me‘, from Tom Waits latest record. It’s nearly as gritty as Waits’ original.
Jones, who will turn 73 next month, also recently released a stellar cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s ‘Evil‘ on Jack White’s Third Man label. The single features White and members of his band the Raconteurs. Tom Jones can’t be stopped!
