According to Jane’s Addiction.org, the first 100 fans in line at the Bardot in LA tonight will get to see the band tear through a short, five-song set. The gig will also mark the first appearance of former Guns ‘n’ Roses guitarist Duff McKagen,who joined the Jane’s lineup last month.

This is Oaxaca, Mexico based artist Jerónimo López Ramírez, also known as Dr. Lakra (or Dr. Delinquent) first solo exhibition in the U.S. Larka’s work has been described as playful, hallucinogenic, vulgar and erotic. Or, in other words, completely excellent.

Larka has been making a living as a successful tattoo artist since the early 90’s and began selling his paintings as a means of paying his taxes in Mexico. He uses everything from vintage Mexican pulp fiction novels, magazines and photographs to create his paintings and drawings. Dr. Larka’s engagement runs through September 16th at the ICA Boston.

Marion Peck, (partner of the great Mark Ryden) and Travis Louie are two of the 20+ artists in Roq La Rue’s latest show, Lush Life.

This vintage pinball exhibition includes posters and artist’s creations and reinterpretations of classic pinball art. Lucky visitors will also get to try their luck with some of the pinball machines in the museums collection.

It all kicks off today at 2pm at the Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda, CA. The show runs through March 2, 2010.

Ohio native and now one of Brooklyn’s finest, Joseph Arthur will be at the Triple Door in Seattle tonight, January 15h and also Saturday, January 16th. Both shows are all ages. You can also catch Arthur performing a few songs live on the radio via KEXP at 5:00 pm today. You can stream the performance as it happens online at KEXP.org.

Arthur is also an accomplished painter. During this tour, a limited number of Arthur’s paintings will be for sale at his shows.

Joseph Arthur is one of my favorite performers of the last decade. And his deeply personal music becomes even more stirring when performed live.

The first, First Thursday Art Walk of 2010 is tomorrow. If you’re headed out downtown tomorrow night, I highly suggest you swing by The Pioneer Square Saloon and check out all new works from local artist and friend of this blog, Neil Doherty. Doherty’s paintings and photos will be adorning the Saloon throughout the month of January.

Graffiti artist Weirdo will open a solo show, Orchestra of Old Souls, on Friday, December 4th at the Upper Playground location in Seattle’s UD.  Here’s Weirdo on his inspiration for Souls:

I believe sometimes old souls can be trapped in any “shell” or form, and that death of the body is the only way that the soul may be free to do what it is destined to do somewhere else in this immense universe that we truthfully know nothing about.

Artist events at UP draw big crowds and this will be no exception so get there early. The show kicks off at 6:00.

One of my favorite punky trio’s, The Electric Kisses will open this super-sonic Sunday show at The Funhouse tonight. The Kisses will be giving a bunch of their new material a spin before making way for the crunchy goodness of The Coloffs. Matt Mayhem headlines this garage-y gig, bringing his one man band, Apple Jacks and hot dogs all the way from Idaho. Did I mention the cover is only $5? Don’t miss it…

The exhibit, featuring over 1,500 Polaroids taken by Mapplethorpe between 1970 & 1975, will be on display at The Henry Art Musuem in Seattle through January 31st.

Vinyl Killers started showcasing works of vinyl art back in 2003. Vinyl Killers 7 opens on October 29th at The Goodfoot in Portland, Oregon. Among the contributing artist to the show is prolific vinyl artist Daniel Edlen. The show poster for VK 7 features Edlen’s amazing portrait of Tom Waits.

The special effects in Zombies of Mass Destruction were done by Tom Devlin. Devlin’s credits include movies like, Caged Lesbo A Go-Go, The Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror and a flick that Steven King called “hilarious”, Poultrygeist: The Night of the Chicken Dead.

On October 24th, Zombies of Mass Destruction will play at the Admiral Theater in West Seattle as part of The Seattle Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

If you’ve missed Davila 666 (the greatest thing to come out of Puerto Rico since Tito Puente) because you were busy getting rained on at Bummershoot (thanks Andy) last month, then get yourself to The Funhouse for tomorrow’s early show. Davila 666 shares the bill with Sonic Chicken 4 from France, the garage goodness of Aurora Roarers, Ape City R&B and Watch it Sparkle.

Funhouse doors are at 3:30 and the cover is only $7! If you do the math, that’s less than $1.50 per band. You’re budget might be low (like mine) but this show is crappy-economy-friendly!

I wish this photo could have showed Andy Falkous’ bulging neck veins from last night. Anyway, Future’s show last night at Neumo’s was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. Then And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead came on stage and blew what was left of Neumo’s roof right the fuck off.

Anyway, I suspect that the crowd at Neumo’s will be a bit livelier than the one in this video for Future’s The House that Hope Built. Mostly because I will be there, but I digress. The point of this post is this. Anytime 2/3’s of McLusky come to your town, you go see them. True story.

Not only is Satriani one of the most technically proficient guitar players to ever stroke an Ibanez or any other guitar, he is also is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. If you like high-octane Rockabilly, Hamm’s Beer and cheese grits, you don’t want to miss this show. Did I mention Slim’s makes awesome cheese grits? I did? Okay, good.

Lastly, the original lineup of Killing Joke will start a world tour this September that starts in Tokyo and ends up in Chicago in October at the House of Blues. New tour dates were recently announced for the band that include London, LA, and in New York at The Filmore. The band also cranked out some awesome vinyl re-issues, including a KJ favorite of mine, 1985’s Night Time.

Thanks to my favorite LP for her help with this week’s GTFO. You spin me right round, baby. I can’t wait till the next time we get to drink eachother under the table.

It’s so deep, that after reading one of his books, you start to see real-life versions of his characters walking down the street. WCI estimates that there are 300,000 child soldiers, worldwide. Iggy Pop and Radiohead are also supporters of War Child. I would like to take this opportunity to share a weird Nazareth story. Former Nazareth guitarist Manny Charlton has pissed off his old Scottish band mates by touring around the US under the name Nazareth. The real Nazareth (or the real version that still includes original vocalist Dan MacCafferty) was so pissed that the band posted this urgent message on their website urging fans not to be taken in by the fake, mostly Yankee version of Nazareth.

In other weird Nazareth news, MacCafferty’s Nazareth is in the middle of a massive tour in honor of their 40th anniversary and new record, The Newz. The tour only gets as close to the US as Canada, to Cherrybomb’s chagrin.

If you are a true Horror fan, you do NOT want to miss Full Moon Horror Road Show. Let me put it to you like this. Full Moon makes movies called Assault of the Killer Bimbos and Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death, with Adrienne Barbaeu. Full Moon also made a little movie called Castle Freak, which was directed by the Re-Animator himself, Stuart Gordon. Full Moon makes something called a MonsterBra. Although I doubt the “one size fits all” MonsterBra claim, Full Moon can do ANYTHING. Including taking their naked-chick-in-a-bloodbath show on the road. MonsterBra not included.

On June 6th, Tad Doyle of Tad and his new band, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth will be at Jules Maes. BOTSC will also play the Gutter Twins show along with Skullbot in July at the Showbox. It’s finally Summertime and that means it’s all about the return of your favorite cover bands to your local club scene. Here is the line-up so far for Seattle:

Led Zeppelin ain’t gonna tour but you can still see them. Sort of…

So many tribute bands, only so much time, so here we go. Supernauty, the Seattle-based Black Sabbath cover band, will be at Nectar Lounge on Wednesday, June 25th. On Saturday, July 5th, Revolver, A Beatles Tribute, will be at The Triple Door. A mere five days later, on Thursday, July 10th the all-girl Led Zeppelin troupe, Zepparella (not to be confused with Lez Zeppelin, the all-girl Zep tribute that played Bonaroo this year) plays the Tractor with Witchburn. Witchburn is fronted by Jamie Nova, who belts ‘em out for the supergirl-powered AC/DC tribute, Hell’s Belles. And since there ain’t no such thing as too much Zeppelin, Led Zepplica, the So-Cal Zeppelin tribute band will play two shows at the King Kat on July 25th & 26th.

Cash’d Out.

Lastly, on Friday, August 15th you can see the Pink Floyd tribute band, The Machine at Neumo’s and follow that up with Cash’d Out, a trib to Johnny Cash on Saturday, August 16th at the Tractor. Phew.

I mean, what were you gonna do, visit your mother? Call FTD and tell Mommy you fell down the stairs. Besides, The Funhouse’s Bloody mix makes a sweet, sweet hangover recovery called Red Beer. Cherrybomb will never steer you wrong when it comes to party liquids. I’d rather drink from the dirty, plastic shrine of Pepe Lopez than do that. Whatever you do, if Pepe asks you to come on in and introduce yourself, just say something like “Dios Mio, La Migra,” really loud. Pepe ain’t worth kissing for the porcelain god, despite the vessels’ cool, white inviting appearance. Remember, your ASS goes there. Not your mouth. Just say no to the bottom shelf.

Peter Murphy will be at the Box on Friday, May 30th. It’s common knowledge that great voices only get better with age, and Murphy’s stand-alone vocals are no exception to this rule. Cherrybomb fully expects at least a 10 minute version of Dark Entries and a 30 minute version of Bella Legosi’s Dead. Murphy will also perform highlights from his dense solo career. Some of the highlights of Murphy’s goth idol, solo sojourn can be found on the 2000 comp, Wild Birds .

I’m pretty sure Mike Ness is trying to give Cherrybomb a heart attack. If my calculations are correct, Ness just celebrated his 46th birthday last month. How can one man look and sound so good? It just ain’t right. Anyways, Mike Ness, his excellent hair, and his BAND will be at The Showbox on Wednesday, July 9th (all ages) and Thursday, July 10th (21+). Ness and his Band will also visit New York, Chicago and The Crystal Ballroom in Oregon during June and July.

Nick Cave. Life on the road looks like fun…

Lastly, if you haven’t heard already, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds will be in Seattle at the Box on Tuesday, September 23rd. Rumor has it that a second show will also be added for Wednesday, September 24th. I don’t mind saying that I am the proud owner of one rather expensive – but worth every penny – ticket to the September 23rd show. Cave’s new record, Dig, Lazarus, DIG!!! is being called one of the best of a young 2008. And Cherrybomb agrees.

Roots and Branches: American Music on Screen will play one night at the NW Film Forum May 8th. The film features images of musical Americana from the 20’s and 30’s, like Dock Boggs (above). It seems a bit like R. Crumb’s book, Heros of Blues, Jazz and Country come to life. Besides, don’t you want to know where your Roots come from?

Oceansize. Beyond prog-rock.

On April 15th, while you were telling the tax man some sob story, Oceansize was rocking the shit out of Munich. The tour runs through July with 12 more stops include Liverpool, Switzerland and Germany. All this noisy prog-madness leads up to the band’s 10th Anniversary in October. Oceansize will celebrate by playing 3 sold-out nights in Manchester. Each night, the band will play one of their three records, Effloresce (Cherrybomb’s personal favorite), E.I.P and Frames, in it’s entirety. So I guess it seems logical that the Sugerhill Gang is playing in London on May 24th, right? Although, I’m pretty sure that London isn’t driving distance from Seattle. I should probably check into that because if it is, that means we got a ROADTRIP! Anyways, the original lineup of Sugarhill is playing the last stop on the Bestival Tour, with the awesome ambiance that is Ulrich Schnauss. While it’s not the first time since ‘79, it’s still a chance for you to see the group that built the house that Rap lives in.

Stone Temple Pilots kick off their summer tour on May 17th in Columbus, Ohigh. Cherrybomb will never forget seeing the band back in the heyday of 1990 at an American Legion Hall on a lake somewhere in Western Massachusetts. Whoever booked that show must have been high, but I’m glad they were. There was barely any security, you could bring booze in, it was Summer and there was a fucking lake within pissing distance. It was perfect.

Except for his stunning case of Manorexia. Which means this tour is gonna be great. As long as Weiland can stay out of jail long enough to come to your city. I became enthralled with DIOY,Y? after KEXP DJ, Cheryl Waters introduced the band at SXSW this year. Waters’ unapologetic adoration for the band, who didn’t even have a record out at the time, was Cherrybomb’s personal long-distance SXSW highlight. What’s yours…?

Testament May 17th Studio Seven. Billy in the middle. Just how I like him…

Two words. Chuck Billy is the balls. Two more words. Cherrybomb can’t count. Anyways, the band has gone through a bunch of lineup changes but, after beating Cancer, Billy is back on the mic and as brutal as ever. Testament’s first record since 2001, The Formation of Damnation, rocks with the strings of original Testament guitar-slayer, Alex Skolnick. If you don’t own any Testament, Cherrybomb recommends you start with Practice What You Preach. Although, I don’t know of any reasonable explanation you might have as to why your record collection might not include Testament. For sure I would never admit something like that out loud. Chuck might hear you.

To say Merle Haggard is a country legend is an understatement. Haggard has penned songs like The Bottle Let Me Down and I Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink. Perennial Cherrybomb favorites. Merle Haggard is a man who escaped from San Quentin Prison. He is also a man who spent the next 15 years at San Quentin as an inmate where he saw Johnny Cash perform three times before his release. Last year, Haggard had this to say about the modern state of music:

“I wish somebody could come up with something different. Start a new trend. If only somebody could sing a song, had something to say, had a good melody or could do it in person without any any help from electronics. I think people would go nuts.”

I’m happy to say that people still go nuts at a Merle Haggard show. And that’s right on. It’s completely possible for age and genuine talent to run all over country-pop’s beautiful head till she’s dirt ugly. Music needs Merle Haggard. We need Merle Haggard. I mean, you can’t lose in Vegas when Merle’s in the room…right? You bet your boots you can’t…

On July 15th Blondie and The Stranglers (!) will play the three-day festival called GuilFest in the UK. While it’s not the original Strangler line up (original vocalist Hugh Cornwell hasn’t played with the band since the 90’s) the current lineup has been together for the last 16 years, more or less. And, even at 62, Deborah Harry and the boys of Blondie can still rip it and look good doing it. Take that Nickelback…

Those dirty little rumors of an AC/DC 2008 tour just won’t die. The band has denied all tour rumors so far, including the latest one from January of this year, that had the band playing a small club in Switzerland. However, bassist Cliff Williams was recently quoted as saying “the band will be back in the studio on March 1st,” to start recording their new (and likely last) record. It’s the band’s first new release in eight years. Trust Cherrybomb on this one. Once that record comes out, that tour is on.

In other fingers-crossed news, Ray Davies of The Kinks recently told the LA Times that the possibility of a Kinks reunion is quite possible. The band hasn’t played together since 1996, but Davies has continued to tour and make music as recently as 2007 with the release of Working Man’s Cafe. All I can say to that is, when “Low Budget” came on at the supermarket the other day, I sang all the words. Out loud. Then I went home and put on the eponymous Low Budget (1979), followed that up with Give the People What They Want (1981) and finished up my day with Ray with the reissue of Misfits (1978). Because, for some strange reason I needed to listen to Father Christmas.
