Leon Vs. The Revolution. King Buzzo is back with a “Lite” version of The Melvins.

Here’s the first single ‘Leon Vs. The Revolution‘ from the forthcoming Melvins “Lite” record, ‘Freak Puke‘. It is 2:52 seconds of epic rawk awesomeness.

I Know, It’s Only Booze By The Rolling Stones. But I Like It.

Rolling Stones now have their own line of boozy beverages.

Joining the ranks of pretty much EVERYONE, The Rolling Stones will start selling their new Rolling Stones Bar line . Distributed by  Japanese firm Suntory Liquors , the line includes three different party liquids, a Rolling Hop beer (4%), Rolling Gold cocktail (5%), and the Citrus Highball (4%), a lemon & lime highball in a bottle.

But to me, the crowing jewel to this happy booze news has to be The Rolling Gold beverage, which is a gin-based cocktail. There’s also a little zip at the neck of the bottle that will remind you of the band’s 1971 record, Sticky Fingers. The line is set to launch just in time for summer, on June 19th.

Cherrybombed.com Turns Five!

Happy 5th birthday Cherrybombed.com!

It’s hard to believe but on this day five years ago, Cherrybombed.com was born unto to the Internet. I didn’t really know what I was doing then, and not much has changed since. I’m honestly humbled by how many of you read this blog, and I want you to know it warms my cold, black heart to know you enjoy my little slices of random heavy metal ramblings, typos, and poor punctuation.

Since CB.com has been so much fun, I’m excited to announce that in the very near future I’ll be launching a new blog with my east coast grrrl friend, the Duchess of Cambridge herself, Stacey of Movies About Girls! It’s not going to be anything like CB, but I think you’re gonna dig it anyway.

Happy birthday CB! Long may you run…

Daily Earwig: Dee Snider – Mack The Knife

Dee Snider, Mack the Knife. From the upcoming record, ‘Dee Does Broadway’.

Dee Snider’sDee Does Broadway‘, record comes out next week. It’s a record full of show tunes by Dee Snider. Of Twister Sister. From the decade that time tries to forget was pretty sweet, the 1980′s. There is a metal part of me that wants to hate this, but I can’t. I CAN’T! Snider’s version of ‘Mack the Knife‘, which has been covered by everyone from Nick Cave to The Psychedelic Furs, and its accompanying video (directed by Snider’s 23 year old son Cody Blue Snider), is pretty fantastic. The video even makes me long for the days when MTV used to play videos with goofball, antic riddled story lines. Or pretty much every video Twisted Sister ever made. Mr. Snider, I tip my very metal hair to you.

More via Snider official site.

Programming Note: In other very metal news, I’m headed to the Van Halen show at the Tacoma Dome tonight. And it’s also Cinco de Mayo, otherwise known as National Pour Tequila on Your Liver Day. So no posts until Monday. Also, if you’re planning on making sure your liver becomes an honorary Mexican tonight, please don’t get in your car afterwards. That would just be Cinco de Stupido.

Farewell Beastie Boy MCA, Adam Yauch

Adam Yauch, 1965-2012.

Such sad news to hear today that Adam Yauch, MCA of the Beastie Boys, passed away after a brave three year battle with cancer. The news of Yauch’s passing is truly a huge loss for the world of music, not just hip hop, as the Beastie Boys always transcended the imposed lines of musical genre. Yauch was a devout Buddhist, and was outspoken in his efforts to bring awareness to Tibet’s diminishing culture, due to Chinese oppression. During his battle with cancer, Yauch sought help from traditional Tibetan medicine. His activism and spirituality influenced the Beastie Boys music, propelling it to a higher level.

Beastie Boys, Heart Attack Man, Live in 1995 on SNL.

Chuck D once thanked Run DMC for being the first to prove that a DJ could be a band, and the Beastie Boys deserve the same praise. And it goes without saying that the Beasties’ could not have been without Adam Yauch. The band has always been in heavy rotation since I discovered them back in high school. Their instrumental record, ‘The Sound From Way Out‘, was the music playing while guests filed into the bar at my wedding reception. I’m sad thinking that MCA is no longer part of such a stellar musical equation, but I’m grateful that he was. Farewell, MCA. Me, my horsey, and a quart of beer salute you.

Tom Jones Covers Tom Waits And Leonard Cohen On Upcoming Record ‘Spirit In The Room’

Tom Jones covers Leonard Cohen’s ‘Tower of Song’. From Cohen’s 1988 classic, ‘I’m Your Man’. Get our your tissues, this one’s a tear-jerker.

Set for release on May 21st in the UK, Tom Jones’ latest record, ‘Spirit In The Room‘, will find the timeless Tom Jones covering classic songs from Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and blues legend, Blind Willie Johnson. If you do two things today one should be watching Jones’ video for Cohen’s ‘Tower of Song’ (above). Not only does Jones do the original proud, the video is reminiscent of Johnny Cash’s gripping video for ‘Hurt’. The second thing you need to do is listen to Jones’ spot on cover of ‘Bad As Me‘, from Tom Waits latest record. It’s nearly as gritty as Waits’ original.

Jones, who will turn 73 next month, also recently released a stellar cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s ‘Evil‘ on Jack White’s Third Man label. The single features White and members of his band the Raconteurs. Tom Jones can’t be stopped!

US release date is TBD. Track listing follows.

1.   Tower Of Song (Leonard Cohen)
2.   (I Want To) Come Home (Paul McCartney)
3.   Hit Or Miss (Odetta)
4.   Love And Blessings  (Paul Simon)
5.   Soul Of A Man (Blind Willie Johnson)
6.   Bad As Me (Tom Waits)
7.   Dimming Of The Day (Richard Thompson)
8.   Traveling Shoes (Vera Hall Ward)
9.   All Blues Hail Mary (Joe Henry)
10. Charlie Darwin (The Low Anthem)
