Daily Earwig: Earl Greyhound – Ghost and The Witness… 0

Posted on April 27, 2010 by DJC

Earl Greyhound, Ghost and The Witness. From the April 2010 release, Suspicious Package. You can get a full download of Suspicious Package for free here (sign-up required).

Earl Greyhound are from Brooklyn and make regular pilgrimages to Boston for live shows. If you’re in Boston on May 7th, (and I know very well that lots of you are), your opportunity to see what will likely be one of the most sonic rock shows this year happens on May 7th, at one of the last great rock rooms still standing in Boston, The Paradise.

Earl will kick out a bunch of other East Coast dates next month before hitting the West Coast (not Seattle – Boo) through the month of May.

Lastly, since I know you really like to rock, here’s EG’s video for Shotgun. Bang-Bang! Rock ‘n’ Roll  baby!

Despite the fact that I’m a huge Aerosmith fan, I still can’t bring myself to put any of my Aerosmith WBCN bumper stickers on my car. Or anything else for that matter. Ten days and counting until ‘BCN goes off the air on Tuesday, August 16th, 2009.

CourtneyLookingBetterItMightGetLoud
Courtney Love attending a screening of It Might Get Loud in New York last night.

Just like Robert Downey Jr’s crazy 1/2 brother (you see the resemblance too, don’t you?), I too was surprised to find out that the blond woman is this photo is in fact a less gangly looking, Courtney Love.

It Might Get Loud… 0

It Might Get Loud. Staring Jimmy Page, Jack White and The Edge.

David Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth) directed It Might Get Loud. After making the rounds on the film festival circuit, Loud will finally open in New York and LA on August 14th and nationwide shortly after that.

Personally, I’m still sort of on the guitar hero fence about The Edge’s participation in this film. I guess Joe Perry was busy. Keef left his amp at home, and was somewhere warm, avoiding coconut trees and playing pirate with Johnny Depp. Mike McCready’s guitar calendar was totally booked with stuff like reviving his 80’s metal outfit Shadow, gigging with his UFO cover band Flight to Mars for charity, recording the new PJ record and becoming a Dad for the first time. Eddie Van Halen is busy suing Nike, and BB King just doesn’t stop touring. Ever. Which leads me to Angus Young, who sadly only riffs for Walmart now. A fact that always makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit every time I think about it.

With that said, the film still looks boss enough not to miss. More on Loud here.

Best Video Ever: The Answer – Never Too Late… 0

Posted on January 19, 2009 by DJC

The Answer, Never Too Late, from Rise, 2006. For Wolff…

If you kinda cross your eyes and shake your head back and forth when watching this video, you might think it’s obscure Zeppelin outtake. Lucky for you, The Answer is a real band out of Ireland hailing from various locations, like County Down. You can find Never Too Late on the bands first full-length, Rise.

The Answer is set to release a new full-length, Everyday Demons, in early March. You can check out their Myspace to listen to some of the new material from Demons. Right now, The Answer is supporting AC/DC on the road and will play a few solo-shows in several European cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, and Belfast.

XM Led is back…

XM will re-launch it’s all Led Zeppelin channel, XM Led on November 1st. XM Led premiered last year on November 8th, 2007. Although it was scheduled to run through the end of May, 2007, XM pulled the plug on XM Zep on March 7th. Since it’s now clear to everyone Zep’s popularity will never fade, XM decided to bring back what they call “the comprehensive Led Zeppelin experience” to the airwaves. XM Led not only plays the music of Zeppelin but also features past and present interviews with the band and other rare Zeppelinesque content.

Spokane Native to Front Plant-less Zeppelin Tour…? 0

Posted on October 08, 2008 by DJC

Alter Bridge, Open Your Eyes, 2004.

According to Blabbermouth.net, Spokane, Washington native Myles R. Kennedy may have been tapped to front Led Zeppelin for a possible upcoming tour. Kennedy is the vocalist for Florida band, Alter Bridge, that includes former members of Creed. Which won’t be surprising to you after you listen to the vid for Open Your Eyes, above. Anyway, Robert Plant has made it clear that he has no intention of touring with Led Zeppelin despite rampant internet rumors to the contrary. And while I’m always excited to see a local musician do well, the bottom line here is that Led Zeppelin isn’t Led Zeppelin, without Robert Plant.

Coming Soon: Rob Zombie’s T-Rex, The Movie… 1

Posted on July 13, 2008 by DJC

Tyrannosaurus Rex, a movie by Rob Zombie, coming in 2009.

Even though Zombie ripped off Lemmy on the Motherfucker/SOB joke, I’m okay with that. That’s because it looks like Danny Trejo will play the lead (along with Zombie’s wife Sheri Moon) in Zombie’s upcoming flick, due out in 2009. And since we all know Danny Trejo is 100% motherfucker, this movie will undoubtedly be the balls. Zombie had this to say about T-Rex via his official website:

My next live action feature is called TYRANNOSAURUS REX. I don’t want to give away any details yet, but I will tell you that it has nothing to do with dinosaurs.

I don’t care what this flick is about as long as Danny Trejo is in it. For more on Trejo, check out the 2005 documentary, Champion. It chronicles Trejo’s extraordinary life, including a trip back to Trejo’s old cell at San Quentin Prison.

Led Zeppelin: The Rollercoaster… 2

Posted on June 01, 2008 by DJC

Paul, Peter, Gene and Ace see the Zeppcoaster for the first time…

And while Cherrybomb is still holding out for the a real version of Kiss Meets The Phantom of the Park, for now we’ll all have to settle for the Hard Rock Cafe’s version. The 140 acre Hard Rock Park opened it’s gates last week in South Carolina and lots of people paid lots of money (a day pass will run you $50) to get into the park and ride the roller coaster called Led Zeppelin: The Ride.

Led Zeppelin, The Roller Coaster (artist rendering).

Led Zeppelin: The Ride is a 15 story roller coaster that looks like something out of Gehry’s childhood doodle-pad. The coaster will throttle you along at 65 mph to the dulcet sounds of Whole Lotta Love. It’s got a 1,200 watt sound system and drops a wavering 155 feet at it’s biggest peak.

The Eagles, the old boys of Summer. Still a band and now a roller coaster.

The other big coaster in HRP is Life in the Fast Lane. LITFL is a 50 mph coaster that pulls 2G’s. It’s also armed with an audio system that plays The Eagles song, Life in the Fast Lane. The Eagles, who play live at the park tomorrow, June 2nd, re-recorded Fast Lane specifically for the ride. The Moody Blues play on Tuesday, June 3rd. Yeeech.

Although, I have to admit that I kinda like the idea of HRP’s rock inspired Pinball gallery called, what else? Pinball Wizard.

I know. It’s only sorta rock ‘n’ roll, but maybe you’ll like it anyways…
