This week’s Sears ‘74 is a nostalgic doozy for yours truly. Growing up in Boston, I idolized (and still do) the Boston Red Sox (yes, really), and routinely prayed at the Church of Ted Williams, one of the greatest baseball players of all time. After Williams left the Sox to pursue other sports related ventures, he got into bed with Sears and created a line of various Guns. More specifically, shotguns.

Ted’s Shotgun line for Sears included but was not limited to the single-shot, double barrel, 12-gauge, semi-automatic and pump-action shotguns just to name a few. Of course, all those guns needed somewhere safe to hang out, so Ted also created a signature line of Gun Cabinets for Sears, pictured above.

Andre Agassi and his wig.

First, tennis ace Andre Agassi shocked his fan fans when he went public about his fling with Crystal Meth in 1997. Anyway, since Agassi’s opened his confessional booth to the public, he finally decided to come clean about his awesomely bad 80’s hair, which was actually a wig. Shocking! Meh.

Agassi’s book, “Open: An Autobiography” comes out November 9th. Meh, meh.

Despite earlier reports from Michael Vick’s soon to be ex-agent Joel Segal, sneaker pimp giant Nike has denied resigning Michael Vick’s contract. In 2007, Nike killed Vick’s contract, burned it, then buried it in their backyard after Vick admitted to his involvement in a dogfighting club. Former creative director for Nike, marketing consultant Ernest Lupianacci, summed up the media mess perfectly by saying: “This agent put his Air Vick in his mouth”. Nike spokesperson KeJuan Wilkins backed up Lupianacci’s comments, stating that “Nike does not have a contractual relationship with Michael Vick”.

I told you it would be worth the wait for this week’s Sears ‘74 post! I have to say, I’m having a hard time believing that Sear’s grossed dollar one when it comes to this contraption but, they sure made it look sexy. Of course, you wouldn’t be caught dead getting your roll-on with this massager without your Arlene Dahl Exercise Beautysuit. It really does let you be as active as you want to be.

Jim Carroll, People Who Died.

Poet, author, musician and eternally young punk idol, Jim Carroll, died of an apparent heart attack on Friday in New York. Carroll’s ex-wife, Rosemary Klemfuss, confirmed Carroll’s passing to Reuters today. He was 60.

Incredible heavy sadness.

Michael Vick just signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. The two year deal is worth $8 million.

Before I get flooded with email that the iGallop isn’t real, here’s a link to buy one. Unsurprisingly, the iGallop isn’t the only back-in -the-saddle simulator on the market. The Giddyup or AB 575, came out a year after the iGallop in 2007. Then there’s this one from Panasonic for $1,400 (complete with stirrups thank you). And I thought that The Hawaii Chair looked like fun. I was so, so wrong.

Vibram Five Finger Running Shoes.$80-$90.

The blog Modern Digest recently ran a story that discussed the downfalls of running shoes. The article cited a study conducted at Harvard University that concluded in part that some running shoes may actually weaken runners feet. While the practice of running barefoot isn’t nearly a new trend, neither is the Five Finger Running Shoe from Vibram. Vibram first launched the bizarre looking vegan “barefoot” running shoe in 2005.

Apparently NFL commissioner Michael Goodell has a similar case of amnesia when it comes to Michael Vick as he conditionally reinstated the dog murdering Quarterback this week. Already, numerous NFL teams like the 49ers, St. Louis Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins, have already released statements saying they are just not interested in signing Vick to a contract.

I covered this story pretty heavily when it broke in 2007. But when word came of Vick’s conditional reentry into the NFL couple of days ago, it made me so sick that I wasn’t able to write a coherent word. But that was yesterday and today is a new day. So here are a few choice words I feel most accurately describe my feelings on the latest developments in this story:

Fuck Michael Vick. Fuck Michal Goodell and FUCK THE NFL.

WBCN Ballbusters Baseball jersey. Circa 1989. For Chuckaluckaducka…

I played softball for the WBCN Ballbusters when I worked at WBCN back in the late 80’s. I can’t tell you how many balls I signed at games, even after telling fans that I wasn’t worthy of signing their balls, soft or otherwise. Those were good times.
