Malfunkshun: The Andrew Wood Story. Many thanks to Fizzy Lipton, Wind Hughes and the boy that was so much better than soup, the late, great, Andy Wood.

Sneak Preview of ‘Malfunkshun: The Andy Wood Story – a film by Scot Barbour
Kevin Wood with Malfunkshun and All Hail the Crown
The Hard Rock Café, Seattle 6.25.10
When I first moved to Seattle I got a job at the Raison D’être Café as a replacement for Jeff Ament. The view out of the kitchen window was the side of the Vogue where someone had painted Mother Love Bone in giant letters. One day Jeff stopped in to tell some people about his new band, and that’s when a co-worker told me he and another guy had worked there, played together in Mother Love Bone, and now the other guy was dead. Before I went to see Malfunkshun: The Andy Wood Story, that was all I knew about his life and music. By the end of the film though I didn’t just know aboutAndy, I felt like I knew Andy.
On the surface, this is your typical ‘Behind the Music’ tale: talent-fame-drugs-death. But this isn’t the story of Andy Wood the musician; this is the story of Andy Wood the person. Director Scot Barbour managed to steer clear of clichés and instead create a beautifully made film with reverence for its subject. His skillful editing combines visually dazzling graphics and archival footage with heartfelt testimony from band mates, friends, and family (most notably Kevin, and Toni Wood) to create an in-depth, honest portrait of a free spirit tortured by personal demons. Lyrics like “I know my name is pain” make it clear that Andy used music to try and exorcise those demons. He also used drugs. This film explores the dysfunctional family environment that produced both the outgoing entertainer persona Landrew and the private addict struggling desperately to sort out feelings of pain and love. The tragedy of Andy’s story is not that he almost made it to superstardom; it’s that he almost made it to being a survivor.
Sometimes mash-up’s perilously straddle the line between completely awesome and, awesomely tragic. Anyway, since I can’t figure out if this Sabbath mash-up by Drums of Death is in fact awesome or, if it’s the reason my ears are currently bleeding, I’ll leave it to you to decide.
Male model sulking down the catwalk for designer Walter Van Beirendonck “Read My Skin” show at Paris Fashion Week
Here’s a look at what no man in his right mind, not even the sparkly ones designer Walter Van Beirendonck(creator of the “Man Shirt” seen here on Cherrybombed.com) thinks the well dressed man will be wearing next summer. And while the words “skirts are in this year” might be terrifying enough for most men, it could be worse. There’s also the frightening potential that the “Smells Like Jesus Spirit” craze that dominated the Men’s 2011 Spring/Summer looks this past week in Paris could catch on.
The iTunes store just got 100 times more evil with the release of the new Slayer “Pinball Rocks” app. For a limited time, Pinball Rocks(that features music from World Painted Blood)will only run you $3 and is available now for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
I suppose the “hat” that Pammy is wearing on top of her head in this photo might be a slight improvement from this. Might being the operative word here…

Courtney Love’s VH1 “Behind The Music” premieres on Sunday night. After watching this mind-fucking 3 minute teaser for the show via Dlisted, I had to go lay down. How I’m going to make it through two hours of Courtney’s balls-out brand of crazy is beyond me, but I’m going to try.

Slayer, World Painted Blood. From 2009’s, World Painted Blood.
Often, a video can elevate a song to new levels of awesomeness. This is one of those times. The new video for Slayer’s single “World Painted Blood” is a cross between an episode of Metalocalypse and, what it might be like seeing Slayer live while tripping your balls out on acid. The video was directed by Marvel comic/graphic artist Mark Brooks who, in addition to his contributions to Metalocalypse, also directed the 20 minute short “Playing With Dolls” that was released with the deluxe edition of World Painted Blood last year.
I know it’s a little early in the week to be calling out a “FTW” but, I’m pretty sure this one’s going to stick. Anyway, of all the positive reviews for this resin Zombie of Montclaire Moors statue by artist Alan Dickinson, there was one comment that helped me realize that $89.99isn’t too much to spend if you really want to tell someone you hate them…
I got this as a wedding gift for a friend that loves Zombies. He loved it, his wife hated it. That was the plan.
The Lusty Lady closes it’s doors forever at the end of this weekend. Thanks to AFJ for the photo.
If you’re planning on stuffing some of your paycheck into g-strings this weekend, make sure you do it at The Lusty Lady. All of the $$ spent at the Seattle landmark goes to the girls that have entertained the sexier members of our city for over 30+ years.
Cherrybombed.com is about the music and culture of the Pacific Northwest, as well as other cool happenings around the world. We also shine a spotlight on celebrities behaving badly. Here, you will find videos, low-brow artwork and images, and tattoos only a mother could hate.
If boozing was an olympic event, we would be on a box of Wheaties. If this all sounds familiar to you (and your mother), welcome home.
