Pinball Art: Fine Art opens today at the Pacific Pinball Musem in Almadea California. For NPD.
This vintage pinball exhibition includes posters and artist’s creations and reinterpretations of classic pinball art. Lucky visitors will also get to try their luck with some of the pinball machines in the museums collection.
It all kicks off today at 2pm at the Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda, CA. The show runs through March 2, 2010.
Joseph Arthur, Turn You On (ahem, mission accomplished Mr. Arthur). From one of my favorite records of 2008, Temporary People. Performance recorded live in January 2009 at KEXP.
Ohio native and now one of Brooklyn’s finest, Joseph Arthur will be at the Triple Door in Seattle tonight, January 15h and also Saturday, January 16th. Both shows are all ages. You can also catch Arthur performing a few songs live on the radio via KEXP at 5:00 pm today. You can stream the performance as it happens online at KEXP.org.
Arthur is also an accomplished painter. During this tour, a limited number of Arthur’s paintings will be for sale at his shows.
Joseph Arthur is one of my favorite performers of the last decade. And his deeply personal music becomes even more stirring when performed live.
Blondes Away, 16″ x 20″, Acrylic on Canvas. By Neil P. Doherty, 2009.
The first, First Thursday Art Walk of 2010 is tomorrow. If you’re headed out downtown tomorrow night, I highly suggest you swing by The Pioneer Square Saloon and check out all new works from local artist and friend of this blog, Neil Doherty. Doherty’s paintings and photos will be adorning the Saloon throughout the month of January.
I believe sometimes old souls can be trapped in any “shell” or form, and that death of the body is the only way that the soul may be free to do what it is destined to do somewhere else in this immense universe that we truthfully know nothing about.
Artist events at UP draw big crowds and this will be no exception so get there early. The show kicks off at 6:00.
One of my favorite punky trio’s, The Electric Kisses will open this super-sonic Sunday show at The Funhouse tonight. The Kisses will be giving a bunch of their new material a spin before making way for the crunchy goodness of TheColoffs. Matt Mayhem headlines this garage-y gig, bringing his one man band, Apple Jacks and hot dogs all the way from Idaho. Did I mention the cover is only $5? Don’t miss it…
Oh so pretty. Robert Mapplethorpe and his frequent subject, Patti Smith.
The exhibit, featuring over 1,500 Polaroids taken by Mapplethorpe between 1970 & 1975, will be on display at The Henry Art Musuem in Seattle through January 31st.
Davila 666. Photo by Victor Pagan. For LP and Surly.
If you’ve missed Davila 666(the greatest thing to come out of Puerto Rico sinceTito Puente) because you were busy getting rained on at Bummershoot (thanks Andy) last month, then get yourself to The Funhouse for tomorrow’s early show. Davila 666 shares the bill with Sonic Chicken 4 from France, the garage goodness of Aurora Roarers, Ape City R&B and Watch it Sparkle.
Funhouse doors are at 3:30 and the cover is only $7! If you do the math, that’s less than $1.50 per band. You’re budget might be low (like mine) but this show is crappy-economy-friendly!
Future of the Left @ Neumo’s. Tuesday, October 13th, 2009. Photo by Cherrybomb’s iPhone.
I wish this photo could have showed Andy Falkous’ bulging neck veins from last night. Anyway, Future’s show last night at Neumo’s was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. Then AndYou Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead came on stage and blew what was left of Neumo’s roof right the fuck off.
A million thanks to Dr. H for GTFO with me last night and for making sure I had a drink in my hands at all times.
The Welsh chops on Future of the Left’s frontman Andy Falkous kill me almost as hard as his gut-wrenching vocals. Anyway, I suspect that the crowd at Neumo’s will be a bit livelier than the one in this video for Future’sThe House that Hope Built. Mostly because I will be there, but I digress. The point of this post is this. Anytime 2/3’s of McLusky come to your town, you go see them. True story.
El Lobo! Davila 666 plays The Funhouse tonight in Seattle.
Screw Bumbershoot! San Juan, Puerto Rico’s garage heros, Davila 666, have finally found their way to Seattle. Davila plays The Funhouse tonight and an all ages show tomorrow with the Coconut Coolouts at The Morgue.
Mescaline Skull painted on 12′ vinyl record by Jason Atomic.
A favorite artist of this blog, Jason Atomic, has contributed pieces to the Noise of Art Custom Vinyl Art Show at the East End Art Club in London. I’ve also just learned that Arizona artist Daniel Edlen, another prolific muse of yours truly, also contributed pieces to the collection. The show opens today, September 3rd and runs through September 20th, 2009 and features works of art created on old 12′ LP’s.
Thanks to Jason Atomic and Vinyl Art for the link.
Radio Rockets, The Electric Kisses and Thankless Dogs @ The Monkey Pub, July 18th, 2009. Poster by Sarah.
After 14 of making music from somewhere deep inside a Seattle garage with bands like The Castros, The Earaches and his latest venture, Radio Rockets, vocalist and guitar slinger, August Henrich is taking a break from the limelight. Henrich says he plans to spend more time in his studio recording and composing music as well as mastering a backlog of vintage archived Earache material.
Tonight the Rockets will once again share the stage with The Electric Kisses(Henrich’s excellent wife Lori plays the drums for the punk trio) and the scruffy-fuzz of the Thankless Dogs. Get your earplugs and your ass out to this show. I wouldn’t miss it for anything.
Tonight at The Tractor you can expect The Staxx Brothers to pull out music from their most recent record, We are Blaxstonz, cuts from their 2008 record 12th Street Blues, as well as some new material the band plans to record in the Fall with Blaxstonz producer, Scott Colburn.
Anyway, ever since I found TSB, I’ve been a huge fan of their show posters. The latest one for tonight’s show at The Tractor is no exception. It’s almost as hot as the home-cooked soul the band heats up at their live shows. Almost…
More on The Staxx Brothers(and sisters, represent!)here.
The Iconography of Masks, a show curated by London based artist Jason Atomic , opens on July 30th at The Resistance Gallery in London. Masks will feature everything from from fetish hoods to death masks, created by artists and collectives like Suckadelic and Bigfoot, as well as new mask related paintings by Atomic himself.
My Rock ‘n’ Roll 1/2 Marathon Medal. Thanks to Wonder Woman for running with me and on her personal 1/2 marathon record yesterday. You are my hero.
Yesterday, I ran my first 1/2 marathon in the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in Seattle. I finished in just over three hours. Though many predicted otherwise (including myself at times), I didn’t die. My apologies to those of you that will have to wait a little longer to divvy up my record collection. Anyway, here are some of the highlights from my early morning jaunt from Tukwila to Seattle yesterday.
The Michael Jackson Shrine between miles 4 and 5. Complete with a boom box blaring MJ and the chick with the sweet Afro busting a move with MJ’s photo in her hands.
The field was comprised primarily of chicks. 70% to be precise. Proving once again that girls rule!
Stopping briefly to check out the Grynch around mile 10.
I got a medal (see above. Seriously, it’s really mine)! And it wasn’t for drinking someone under the table. That’s next weekend.
The KISS cheerleaders bringing me home at mile 13.
Sprinting to the finish line!
The Cheetos I got to eat after passing on the “thanks but no thanks” complimentary MGD in the recovery area. Mmmmm, forbidden Cheetos…
Thanks to everyone that called and wrote to wish me well on Saturday. I’ll be back to regular posts tomorrow. Stay tuned…
The very sexy Tommy One Time sent me this show poster for his June 5th gig with his band The McInros. It’s fantastic, don’t you think? Anyway, the very metal McInros will be at the brand new (so new I don’t have the addy yet)Mesa’s Cuisine in Capitol Hill. Get out and support the local, local yo…
Cherrybombed.com is about the music and culture of the Pacific Northwest, as well as other cool happenings around the world. We also shine a spotlight on celebrities behaving badly. Here, you will find videos, low-brow artwork and images, and tattoos only a mother could hate.
If boozing was an olympic event, we would be on a box of Wheaties. If this all sounds familiar to you (and your mother), welcome home.
