Glenn Danzig Is The New Dave Mustaine: “Democrats Are Fascists Disguised As Liberals”

In an interview with Gimmie Noise of Minneapolis, Glenn Danzig espoused words of wisdom that we usually hear coming from Dave Mustaine’s mouth. When blogger Kory Grow asked the 58 year old about his history with the PMRC, Danzig went off the deep end…

“Yeah, you know, Al Gore [Senator and later Vice President, who was then married to Tipper Gore, co-founder of the PMRC] wanted to tell people what they could listen to and what they couldn’t, what they could record. It was basically coming down to the idea that he wouldn’t let anybody record any music that he didn’t think you should be doing. There was going to be an organization that would tell you what you could and couldn’t record. And certainly if you couldn’t record it, you couldn’t put it out. It was really fascist. My view on Democrats is that they’re fascists disguised as liberals, or liberal moderates. You’re not allowed to say anything that they don’t agree with. You’re not allowed to do anything. Also, the whole Obama, “I can kill anybody with a drone with no trial,” is kind of disturbing. I’m surprised that more people who are supposedly liberal aren’t more disturbed by it. I think whatever Obama does is OK with them, because he’s Obama. It’s bullshit. It’s the same thing with the PMRC telling you, “Bands can go on trial for their music.” What’s next, Wagner is going to get arrested? What? He’s dead.”

You have to love Danzig’s left-field quip about German composer Richard Wagner. And it’s not as if I don’t also find drones disturbing, but the shit that routinely rolls out of aging-right-wing rockers like Ted Nugent and Dave Mustaine, and Danzig, just makes you wonder out loud WHAT THE FUCK happened to these formerly cool rockers.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Danzig has bashed Obama, in a 2010 interview with Boston mag, The Phoenix, everyone’s crazy cat lady said that we were “ten-times worse off now that under President Bush“. For context, the question posed to Danzig that prompted his comments was “What inspires you as a songwriter?”. Yikes. And then there is this 30 second clip (below) from a Fox News show called Red Eye, (where everybody yells over each other), where Danzig jokes about writing a horror-inspired record about the Obama administration

Man, 2016 is still two-plus years away, and we’re already getting comedy gold from Danzig. Hopefully former Misfit Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein agrees with Danzig’s POV, as the two are touring together through September, celebrating the Misfits 25th anniversary. Good luck Doyle! You’re going to need it buddy.

  1. He’s not wrong. The more ‘liberal’ they become, the farther away from true freedom and previous defined ‘liberalism’ they get. If there is a party that wants to censor anyone’s view that doesn’t match their own, it’s the.

  2. One year later…I second what Adam said.
