Died Young, Stayed Pretty: A Movie You Must See About Rock Posters… 2

Posted on January 11, 2010 by DJC

Died Young, Stayed Pretty. A film about rock posters. Thanks to Dr. H.

Last night I was one of seven people (including my good friend Dr. H, the projectionist) that took in the movie Died Young, Stayed Pretty at The Grand Illusion here in Seattle. Yeah, I know it was a Sunday and yeah, Died Young is an obscure flick that documents the anti-culture artists that have been creating rock posters over the last couple of decades. However, Died Young is not only an enthralling movie if you’re a rock junkie like me, it’s also an expertly edited, introspective look into the lives of the artists that do what they do because they can’t not do it. Hometown bonus points to director Eileen Yaghoobian for the screen-time dedicated to Seattle’s vibrant, underground rock-art scene.

Died Young, Stayed Pretty runs through Thursday at The Grand Illusion.

Elvis and Neko. So good together…

Recording for the Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, a spoken word and musical collaboration between splatter expert and horror novelist, Stephen King and John Mellencamp, is complete. The almost finished product has now been handed over to legendary musician and producer T-Bone Burnett for it’s finishing touches.

In addition to Costello and Case, Rosanne Cash plays the role of a mother who’s marriage to her husband, played by Kris Kristofferson (!) has descended into a dark, disturbing place. When it’s done, the 2-plus hour performance will be released as a book with two CD’s of the spoken word script, as well as a third CD of the accompanying music.

Thanks to LP for the link.

Absolut Leather
Absolut studded pint case. Fits any 375 ml bottle of Absolut. Found in Paris during NYE 2009. Lucky me.

You are looking at a my new favorite object, a black  studded case that is suitable to carry any 375ml bottle of Absolut in style. I truly have the best friends in the world.

Thanks to AFJ and JB for this well traveled, very metal hooch holder. I will treasure it almost more than the party liquids it will carry.

Mickey Rourke. Double Fisted Malboro Man… 0

Mickey Rourke is a cool motherfucker-1
Mickey Rourke not only smokes ‘em if he’s got ‘em, he smokes them when he’s got them all at once. Now that’s class.

As much as I wish it was, this isn’t a photo of Mickey Rourke showing off how he can hold up a brick wall while smoking not one but two ciggys. Anyway, here’s a photo of Mickey Rourke on the set of his new movie with Megan Fox, Passion Play. While smoking two cigarettes and holding up a brick wall.

Courtney Love and “Hole” rehearsing “Honey”. From the forthcoming record, Nobody’s Daughter due out this year.

If you close your eyes and listen to this video of Courtney Love running through 30 seconds of the new Hole song “Honey”,  you can almost hear Patti Smith. If she had just polished off a pack of Marlboro red boxes and and a bottle of Jack. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Although it might be. True story.
