Mickey Rourke to play Lobo in New Guy Ritchie Flick…?

Guy Ritchie is set to direct the live-action adaptation blood-splattered escapades of DC comic book character, Lobo. So far, the movie will have a PG-13 (groan) rating and filming should start in early in 2010. As a past and present comic book fan, I’m pretty excited at the chatter that Mickey Rourke is being considered for the lead. Ritchie’s go to head-cracker Jason Statham, has also expressed interest in someday playing a superhero. Given Statham’s history with Ritchie, Statham could be a shoe in to play the comic book king of civil disobedience.
To give you an idea of how truly bad-ass this flick might be watch this short, The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special (yeah, it’s low budget and Santa gets shot). If you don’t see Mickey Rourke in this role from the first frame where Lobo (played by actor Andrew Bryniarski who was also Leatherface in 2003) swaggers into a bar and immediately starts cracking skulls. If you don’t, there is something terribly wrong with your imagination. It might even be broken.
