H1N1 Couture and Living Dead Girls on the Catwalk in Barcelona… 0

French designer Romain Kremer’s mens wear from 080 Barcelona.

I hate to say it, but I’m pretty sure everyone’s going to be wearing one of these this season. Yikes! All “were all gonna die!” alarmist fashion don’ts aside, Kremer’s H1N1 couture isn’t nearly as scary as the models that walked for designer Mikio Sakabe at 080…

Holy leper messiah! More of Sakabe’s living dead girl chic here.

Mickey Rourke to play Lobo in New Guy Ritchie Flick…? 2

Guy Ritchie is set to direct the live-action adaptation blood-splattered escapades of DC comic book character, Lobo. So far, the movie will have a PG-13 (groan) rating and filming should start in early in 2010. As a past and present comic book fan, I’m pretty excited at the chatter that Mickey Rourke is being considered for the lead. Ritchie’s go to head-cracker Jason Statham, has also expressed interest in someday playing a superhero. Given Statham’s history with Ritchie, Statham could be a shoe in to play the comic book king of civil disobedience.

To give you an idea of how truly bad-ass this flick might be watch this short, The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special (yeah, it’s low budget and Santa gets shot). If you don’t see Mickey Rourke in this role from the first frame where Lobo (played by actor Andrew Bryniarski who was also Leatherface in 2003) swaggers into a bar and immediately starts cracking skulls. If you don’t, there is something terribly wrong with your imagination. It might even be broken.

Absolut Boston? Absolutely…! 4

AbsolutBoston
Limited edition Absolut Boston vodka. Black tea and Elderflower. For Surly.

Boston by Absolut came out last last month while I was back east. Even though I’m hearing mixed reviews on Absolut’s latest city inspired vodka, flavored with black tea and Elderflower, it won’t stop me from trying to chase some down this weekend, if not sooner. To help promote Absolut Boston, the company helped build The Boston Wall of Pride in Boylston Plaza.  The wall on display through tomorrow, is made up of plaques from local luminaries like The Dropkick Murphys, Joe Perry, and former Bruin’s brawler, Terry O’Reilly describing their favorite Beantown memories.

You can bid pieces from The Wall of Pride (and the vodka) right now on eBay. All proceeds from the sale of the vodka and the Wall of Pride go to the Charles River Conservancy.

Beth Ditto Goes Orange in Germany… 1

Beth Ditto with orange hair and wearing one of her own designs in Germany.

The only thing that concerns me about this photo of Beth Ditto is her eyebrows. How soon before they end up on the back of a milk carton? Anyway, there is something to be said for a woman who clearly understands who she is and has the balls to dye her hair orange before October. Go DITTO!

A favorite artist of this blog, Jason Atomic, has contributed pieces to the Noise of Art Custom Vinyl Art Show at the East End Art Club in London. I’ve also just learned that Arizona artist Daniel Edlen, another prolific muse of yours truly, also contributed pieces to the collection. The show opens today, September 3rd and runs through September 20th, 2009 and features works of art created on old 12′ LP’s.

Thanks to Jason Atomic and Vinyl Art for the link.

Challenge to R-71 Goes to Thurston County… 1

Love for all, not some. Do not fuck this up Washington State.

After a review of the 137,000 signatures collected to get R-71 on the November ballot, approximately 16,000 were found to be invalid. The law, that would have expanded domestic partnership laws in Washington State, was supposed to take effect on July 26. R-71’s opposition campaign put that on hold.

Despite the question of legitimacy regarding the 16,000 signatures, as of now, R-71 still considered to have enough “legitimate” signatures to be included on the ballot. If the referendum does appear on the November ballot, the law would take effect only if approved by voters Nov. 3. That means if you don’t want Washington State to take a giant step backwards in the fight for equality for ALL, you must vote to approve R-71.

I’ll be blogging updates of this issue every step of the way so stayed tuned.

Joshua Hoffine’s Modern Day Lady Bathory… 0

Joshua Hoffine’s Lady Bathory, 2009.

Joshua Hoffine premiered his new photograph, Lady Bathory at the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear in Toronto last weekend. The photograph will be recreated for the Nightmare Haunted House in NYC that opens on September 25th.

Historically, Hoffine includes a blow-by-blow of his creative process with his new photographs and Lady Bathory is no exception. Thanks to Hoffine’s horrifying attention to detail, I am now coveting a claw foot tub with skulls on the feet.

All weeping punk rock icon glaciers aside, this particular glacier has been shrinking as much as 160 feet a year for decades. If I were that glacier, I’d be pretty depressed too.

Thanks!: To the punk rock eyes of Redd Davey Kidd.
