GTFO: Bloodie Blue Collar Weezers…

Posted on October 10, 2008 by DJC

WOW.

WOW indeed…what a week! I mean, Chinese Democrazy finally has a release date and Slayer said they will play Reign In Blood in it’s entirety in London at Hammersmith, and at two upcoming shows in Sweden. What, was there other, more important news this week? Man,it’s hard keeping up on the news when you’re busy hiding under your bed. Although, I must say I am feeling much more optimistic than I was on Monday. It could be because today is Friday, or it could be because the day after Friday is Saturday. Either way, it’s definitely time to Get The Fuck Out…

Friday, October 10th:

Grynch, My Second Wind, 2008.

Grynch
Vera

Black Kids will not teach him how to dance with you. So don’t ask…

Black Kids
Neumo’s

The Bloodies.Yes please. Thanks to LP for the link.

The Bloodies
The Know (Portland, OR)
Welcome to Cherrybomb’s new favorite band, The Bloodies. You and your ears can thank me later.

Dr. Dog, My Old Ways.

Dr. Dog
Middle East (Cambridge, MA)

Drivin N Cryin, Fly Me Courageous, 1991.

Drivin’ N Cryin’
The Orange Peel (Ashville, CT)
FFS! Now Drivin’ N Cryin’s, Drive Me Courageous is stuck in my head. Sounds like a Cherrybomb Daily Earwig. Anyway, this was one of the first demos I got as a DJ back in Boston and guess what? It was actually kinda good.

Sassparilla Jug Band
Connor Byrne

Joe Satriani.

Joe Satriani and Leslie West of Mountain
House of Blues (Cleveland, OH)
Holy Mother of a Rich Bich! Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Leslie West is still alive! Anyway, this bill is worth the price of admission just to hear West bang out Mississippi Queen and Satriani do Surfing With the Alien.  I met Joe Satriani in the early 90’s and saw him perform an in-studio for about 20 people. Not only is Satriani one of the most technically proficient guitar players to ever stroke an Ibanez or any other guitar, he is also is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. It’s great when the Great, are, well, really great.

Kunt Bell and The Blue Collars
Little Red Hen

Tesla, Edison’s Medicine, 1991.

Tesla
Myth (Mapelwood, MN)
I am unashamed to admit that a couple of Tesla songs are on my iPod shuffle. In other metal news, if you’re in Vegas tonight, Yngwie Malmsteen will be at the HOB. Which isn’t really a recommendation as much as it is an observation. A Yngwie Malmsteen is 45 so why has he aged?, metal, observation.

The Sword
The Music Box at the Fonda (Hollywood)
If you have yet to see The Sword, don’t miss them the next time they roll through your town. Seattle, that means you too.
For Dr. H.

The Love Me Nots, Phoenix, AZ. Thanks to LP for the link.

The Love Me Nots
Studio 66 @ LoFi
The Love Me Nots will also do an in-store at Bop Street on Saturday  at 6:00 PM and a live-in-studio on KEXP’s, Audioasis.

Saturday, October 11th:

DJ B-Mello spins
War Room

Weezer, Say it Ain’t So, 1994.

Weezer
Key Arena
Rivers Cuomo!

A Gun That Shoots Knives
Chop Suey

Betty Ford Falcons
Monkey Pub
The Monkey is one of my favorite Seattle dives and has one of the best jukeboxes in the city.

Natalie Woudn’t
Skylark

For JB and AFJ

Rat City Ruckus.

The Them, Rat City Ruckus
The Funhouse
You want punk rock? This bill is 100% punk rock, just like The House of Fun.

Sunday, October 12th:

Sun0))).

Sun 0)))
Berbati’s Pan (Portland, OR)
If you saw the Nick Cave show a few weeks ago, you got to see Sun0)))’s, Southern Lord band-mates, Earth open the show. Like Earth, Sun0))) is not for everyone, but that’s okay. Being different is cool. In the case of Sun0)), being different is pretty mind blowing when it comes to both your eyes and ears. Take that Nickelback.

Looking Ahead:

Since I know you’ve been preoccupied, I wanted to remind you in advance that Halloween is coming. Here are a few guaranteed good ways to spend October 31st in Seattle…

Zombie Prom with The Staxx Brothers. King Kat Theater on October 31st, 2008.

In addition to a live performance by The Staxx Brothers (and sistas…represent!) this year’s Zombie Prom will feature private burlesque shows courtesy of the girls from Teatro Zinzanni, some giant paper-mache mushrooms, more bands all while 70s Grind House Zombie movies and quotable film classics play all night long. Cherrybomb wouldn’t miss this one and neither should you.

HalloQueen, 2007. Photo by Cherrybomb. Rick Friel’s hair, is perfect. Owww-Oooo. Werewolf of London indeed…

Ahhh…it’s time to HalloQueen again. This year, the boys in HalloQueen will rock you at The Tractor Tavern in Ballard. Team Cherrybomb never misses a show. Even Wonder Woman will take a break from fighting evil in Colorado just long enough to take in the show herself.

I’ll have more Halloween recommendations in the coming weeks. Thanks also to The Staxx Brothers and to LP for their help with this weeks GTFO.  Until then, tie your mother down and Get The Fuck Out…
