Mass: Do You Love Me…? 0

Posted on August 13, 2008 by DJC

Mass, Do You Love Me, 1985.

Man, this is what happens when you start drinking Vodka, are jet-lagged and start going through an old box of cassettes in the basement. All that drunken-nostalgia aside, Mass was/is a Christian Metal band from Boston. Their first full length, New Birth (which includes Do You Love Me) was actually a really good record. So good the band re-released New Birth in 2007 through Retrospect Records.

Mass was/is still around making Metal for Jesus. Their last record, Crack of Dawn, came out in 2007.

Iggy As Art… 2

Iggy Pop by Sebastian Kruger, 2005.

Iggy as art? Why the fuck not. One of my favorites is the one above by amazing German ink-slinger, Sebastian Kruger. Iggy, like many other musicians, has also been known to pick up a paintbrush. In 2004, Igg showed off his other artistic side at Detroit Gallery, CPop. The show featured paintings of fellow Stooge, Ron Asheton as well as members of Iggy’s own family.

Iggy, Ink on Skin by Mike DeVries.

Mike DeVries tattoo of Iggy above is so realistic, I feel like that mike stand is coming at me at any minute. DeVries works out of Cali, but you can catch him at the end of the month at the 1st Annual Tried and True Tattoo Expo, in Florida. DeVries also just released his appropriately titled new book, Let’s Be Realistic. Realistic features DeVries’ talented take on tattooing concepts and techniques.

Iggy es Pop by Lluis Rafols, Acrylic on Canvas, 2007.

This portrait of Iggy by Buenos Aries based artist, Lluis Rafols truly puts the POP in Iggy Pop. Sorry, that one just kind of wrote itself.

Iggy by Victor Pross.

Toronto artist, Victor Pross loves to distort his caricatures. And that’s an understatement. Except in the case of Pross’ portrait of Iggy (above). Iggy can’t be distorted, Iggy is distortion.

Iggy, Nude. Adam Cullen synthetic polymer paint, ink and enamel on canvas, 2001.

Australian artist,  Adam Cullen, has never been one to stay away from controversy when it comes to art. And while a nude painting of Iggy Pop might not be that controversial, Cullen’s latest work, Corpus Christie, has definitely stirred things up, down under. When Cullen’s Christie made the short-list for Australia’s religious art competition, the Blake Prize, this year it so outraged one of the Blake judges, that he resigned in protest. Which only goes to prove if you’re doing something and people hate it, it must be fucking great.

Iggy, Acrylic on illustration Board. Artist unknown.

The Ink Scratch Gallery has this awesome inky rendition of Iggy up on their website. It’s completely badass, just like the subject. If anyone out there knows who the artist it, give me a shout at getcherrybombed at gmail dot com.
