GTFO: Sub Pop Turns 20…

Green River Ride The Fucking Six Pack T-shirt. Thanks to Ben Doll for the vintage inspiration…
As usual, I’m gonna be completely honest with you. This weekend here in Seattle will go down as one of the greatest in the history of Seattle Music. This weekend, it’s all about Sub Pop. This weekend, it’s all about the secret gigs happening around town (like the Green River gig that isn’t at Marymoore) and the not-so-secret Gutter Twins show at The SoDo Box with Tad Doyle’s new band, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth. All this, in honor of a record label that continues to hold a spell over so many of us. Especially here in the Pacific NW.
What I do know is this, there has never been a better weekend to Get The Fuck Out. It’s gonna be just like the old days. Which is pretty much what it’s like here in Seattle now: completely fucking awesome.
Friday, July 11th:

Hunter S. Thompson by Ralph Steadman for the NYT, 2005.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
The Egyptian
That other movie about Hunter, Gonzo, is also playing at The Harvard Exit. Talk about a perfect double-date.

Amos Lee.
Amos Lee
Somerville Theater (Somerville, Massachusetts)
Amos Lee will grace the small Boston township of Somerville on Friday by way of the historic Somerville Theater. If those walls could talk, I’d deny all knowledge of anything they had to say. And smile, because those walls reminded me of that time we snuck a case of tall Bud’s into the midnight screening of Tommy during the summer of 1985. Good times…

Joseph Arthur and the luckiest flower in the world…
Joseph Arthur & the Lonley Astronauts
The Bowery (New York)
Neon Nights
King Cobra
Saturday, July 12th:

PLASTER!!!
Plaster
Iceage Cobra
El Corazon
Sunday, July 13th:

The Supreme Genius of King Khan and the Shrines.
King Khan and the Shrines
The Tractor
Son of a Georgia Peach, this show is gonna kill. KK reminds me of The Monkees on Gin with the Fuzz turned past 11. Love it.
Looking Ahead:

Gogol Bordello at Bumbershoot, 2007. Photo by Cherrybomb.
Gogol Bordello is coming back to what is getting to be their second home, Seattle, on October 9th at The Box in SoDo. Cherrybomb will be taking in GB while hitting the beach back east in August at a little place called Club Casino in New Hampshire. Club Casino is a great little room that Cherrybomb is verrry well acquainted with. I’ve been thrown out of Club Casino numerous times, most notiibly during a Flock of Seagulls show (I should really thank the members of the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Agency for that one), I’ve pre-funked with Peter Frampton (when he still had hair) there, and was front and center for a Winger gig back when they might have been cool for, like, a second. I was so close to the stage, that some chick grabbed a guitar pick out of my hair that Kip threw at me during the show.
I hope that bitch choked on that pick.
But I digress, lets get back to the point of this post. Getting the fuck out.

Ace Frehley Picture Disc, Cherrybomb Private Collection.
Record Swap at Neumo’s! Sweet! On July 19th from 5:00-9:00, you can buy records from locals and local Seattle record stores, all while drinking a nice, frosty PBR. It’s almost like what I imagine heaven is like. Except Cherrybomb Heaven would naturally have a full bar.
Now Get The Fuck Out already…
