Fear and Loathing Tattoos: Gonzo & Steadman Forever…

Posted on July 11, 2008 by DJC

Hunter S. Thompson, Steadman style, ink on skin.

…and since I’ve been jawing a lot about Hunter this week, I thought I would post a few of the better Hunter S. tattoos that also pay homage to one of Thompson’s confidants. Ink-and-splatter master, Ralph Steadman. The one of Hunter (above) is one of the coolest, interpretive ink jobs I’ve ever seen.

The Dr. is in…Gonzo ink on skin.

I’m pretty sure this tattoo of Thompson (above) can actually see you. Never doubt the power of the Gonzo. The Gonzo fist to the right is also a nice touch.

Hunter Thompson almost never looked so good. Almost…

This is one beautiful sleeve. Check out the rest of this awesome piece, below. Sadly, I can’t find anything about the artist. So, if you know who this talented motherfucker is, let me know at getcherrybombed at gmail dot com.

March 23rd, 2009 update: This tattoo was done by Mez Love, a tattoo artist out of Colorado. Much thanks to Mez for letting me know she is the talented motherfucker responsible for this totally gonzo tattoo.

Fear and Loathing sleeve, Part II.

Ralph would be proud. Cherrybomb has major ink-envy.

Fear and Loathing tattoo by Dan Hazelton.

Running a very close second to the previous F&L tatt is this glorious piece of Gonzo Art by Dan Hazleton, a tattoo artist out of Wisconsin. See more of Hazelton’s big beautiful handiwork. I’ve seen a few inky-interpretations of this image (above), but this one is by far the best of the rest.

    Hey…

The first and third tattoos on this page were done by Mez Love, one of our old artists. She now tattoos out of Katalyst Konsepts in Fort Collins, CO. Even though she doesn’t work for us anymore, there is a huge amount of love and respect for Mez at this shop. Check her out at http://www.myspace.com/mezlove

Hey, someone steered me over to your site, and I thought I’d let you know that I’m the artist that did the first piece as well as the third piece. You can find it on my flickr page over here http://www.flickr.com/photos/mezdeathhead/

    thanks for the kind words!
