Drunk at the Movies…

Watching movies while drunk, sweet…

Seeing movies, while drunk ABOUT drunks…Priceless…

Fat City - 1972
keach-give-me-back-my-bourbon.jpg

So Fat City inspired this blog entry and if you haven’t seen it well…here the 411…Stacey Keach has always been mostly bald but is most definately underrated as an actor…his performance as Tully, a boxer past his prime (but dosen’t know it) rivals James Dean performance in “Rebel”. Fat City also features a 23 year old Jeff Bridges and Susan Tyrell as Oma, the glass throwing drunk Tully should have left at the bar. I guarentee Tyrell’s performance alone will give you the bedspins…but I can’t be sure you won’t have a hangover after watching this flick.

Leaving Las Vegas - 1995

Nick Cage in a hands down amazing performance as Ben, a rummy who goes to Las Vegas in order to leave it in a bodybag. Remember when he falls through the glass table? Yeah, me too. And please, click my sneaky little Nick Cage link…it will save you a lot of pain…

Day of Wine and Roses - 1962

I loved hearing Jack Lemon say the word “fuck” in Glen Gary, Glen Ross. Lemon’s portrayal of “Joe” is so completely authentic you will watch most scenes through your hands clasped firmly across your eyes. Screw reality TV…”Days” is reality. See it and try to tell me you weren’t cursing at shadows and punch drunk after…I dare you…

The Lost Weekend - 1945

I can’t lie, this one is hard to watch. Jimmy Stewart drinks George Bailey under the table then kicks him in the face. Christ…I’m almost never gonna drink again…

Do I look drunk to you?

The Legend of Drunken Master (1978 Version. The only one you should watch)

Not only is this a good flick but you get to enjoy Jackie Chan for a change. JC is the king of Kung-Fu Stooges in this one…and drunk off his ass. And no, I’m not going to apologize for including a Kung-Fu movie on this list. I love Kung-Fu…so fuck you…

Honerable Drunk Mention:
To Richard Burton. For not only being a drunk in the movies who stayed so in character that he once said “When I played drunks, I had to remain sober because I didn’t know how to play them while I was drunk”. I don’t know what that means but I definately know I never want to be an actor…

Great list, DJC. I myself partial to the one-two punch of Liz and Dick in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” Fun and games, baby…

    Hi Jane! *Waves stupdily*

DJC, as you know, I too must add “Who’s Afraid of Veriginia Woolf” Not only for Liz and Dick, who were brilliant, but also for George Segal and Sandy Dennis. You can literally feel their drunken nasuaua as they watch George and Martha and wonder, “What the hell did we get ourselves into? And how do we get out of here…fast?”

  3. WiggleButt Says:

That should have been “Waves stupidly” Hmmmm, maybe one day me spell rite.
